AHL

Lake Erie wins the back portion of the home-and-home; blanks Hamilton 3-0. John Grahame stopped all 30 shots he faced to win his fourth game of the season. It was also his first shutout on the year. Grahame was named the first star of the game.

Ryan Stoa opened the scoring in the first period with his 11th goal of the season. Mike Carman notched his seventh tally of the year. The short-handed goal was the fifth one scored by Carman on the season. Stoa and Carman were named the second and third stars of the game. Matt Ford had the other tally for the Monsters. It was his 11th score of the season.

Tulsa dumps Texas 6-2. Tom Fritsche assisted on a power play goal scored in the second period. He did not record a shot on net; though the rest of his team mates fired 28 shots on the Texas goal. The Oilers find themselves back at 0.500.

OHL

Owen Sound comes back to beat Ottawa 6-5. The Attack had to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Joey Hishon assisted on three of the tallies before capping off the come back with the game tying and game winning goals. For his efforts, he was named the first star of the game. Hishon has now vaulted himself to sixth in scoring in the OHL with 53 points.

Oshawa doubles up Kitchener 4-2. Brandon Maxwell allowed all four Generals goals on 34 shots. Not only did Maxwell lose his sixth game of the season in regulation, he was also penalized for tripping in the second period. The defeat puts the Rangers two points behind North Division leading Owen Sound, but Kitchener has two games in hand.

Brampton trims Belleville in a shoot-out 2-1. Stephen Silas finished plus one during regulation. He did not participate in the shoot-out. The Bulls were out shot 38-21. Belleville has lost three games in the shoot-out this season.

WHL

Saskatoon upends Red Deer 7-3. Red Deer out shot Saskatoon 43-26. Stefan Elliott assisted on a short-handed goal scored in the second frame and also notched his 16th goal of the season in the same period. Elliott was okay after receiving a nasty hit from Rebels defenseman Josh Cowen. Elliott was named the third star of the game.

Kamloops scores twice in the third period to top Seattle 3-2. Calvin Pickard stopped 46 of 49 shots in a losing effort. His club managed 40 shots on the Kamloops net. Seattle falls to 16-14-3-4.

NCAA

Dodge Holiday Classic (Minneapolis, MN)

Ferris State and Minnesota skate to a 2-2 tie. Kent Patterson made 27 stops in the game and now has three ties on the year. Nate Condon fired three shots on net for the Gophers and was plus one for the contest.

Shillelagh Tournament (Hoffman Estates, IL)

Brown thumps Boston University 6-1. Kieran Millan was the goaltender of record and allowed all six opposition tallies.  He made 18 saves in the game and saw his individual record fall to 5-3-5.

AHL

Lake Erie ends their four game losing streak, beats Rochester 4-1. Starter Jason Bacashihua carried a shut-out until the 12:29 mark of the third period. He stopped 24 shots in the contest to earn his ninth win of the season.  

Scoring for the Monsters was forward Patrick Rissmiller with his seventh tally of the season. Justin Mercier (4), David Van der Gulik (3), and Matt Ford (10) also scored for the Monsters. Ryan Stoa contributed with two assists for Lake Erie, as did defenseman Kevin Montgomery.  

Mercier, Rissmiller, and Bacashihua were named the three stars of the game. The Monsters will next face Hamilton in a home-and-home series.

Peterborough thumps Belleville 6-1. Belleville was out shot 36-27 and allowed three power play goals to Peterborough. Defenseman Stephen Silas was minus one for the Bulls. He was penalized for hooking in the third period. Belleville falls to 12-22-0-2.

Owen Sound upends Barrie 8-5. Owen Sound dominated in shots 49-30. After going pointless in three of his previous four games, Joey Hishon scored twice and added two helpers. The forward was assessed with a minor infraction for hooking in the second period. Hishon is now tied with team mate Garrett Wilson for the team scoring lead with 48 points.  

Kitchener holds off Windsor 3-1. Brandon Maxwell had a fantastic night in net for the Rangers, stopping 44 of 45 Spitfires shots. He was named the first star of the game. The win keeps the Rangers within two points of Midwest Division leading Owen Sound. Yet, Kitchener does have three games in hand. Maxwell improves to 16-5-3.

WHL

Saskatoon out lasts Prince Albert 4-3. The Blades blew a 3-0 lead to the Raiders, but would score the game winner at the 8:52 mark of the third frame. Stefan Elliott did not factor in on the scoring and was even for the contest. The victory improves Saskatoon to the best record in the league at 27-8-0-1.

Spokane destroys Seattle 8-2. The Chiefs threw 56 shots at the Thunderbirds net. Calvin Pickard surrendered six of those goals on 39 shots faced in the first two periods. He was pulled in favor of Michael Salmon to start the third period. The loss drops Seattle to 15-13-3-4.

Tri-City dumps Portland 5-1. The Winterhawks have lost three games in a row. Troy Rutkowski was even for the game. Portland trails Saskatoon by two points for the best record in the league.  However, the Blades have three games in hand.

NCAA

Great Lakes Invitational (Detroit, MI)

Michigan doubles up Michigan Tech 4-2. Luke Moffatt assisted on the opening goal scored by the Wolverines in the second period.  The freshman skated on the third line for Michigan and fired two shots on net. Michigan will face Colorado College in the tournament final.

World Junior Championship

Canada toys with Norway, stomps them 10-1. The Canadians scored six times in the opening frame. Tyson Barrie assisted on one of the three goals scored by Canada in the third period. He ended up with three shots on goal and a plus three rating. Canada will finish the round-robin with a game against the Swedes on Friday.

AHL

Lake Erie falls to Grand Rapids 5-3.  The Monsters lost all four games on their recent road trip.  The Monsters held the Griffins to 16 shots, but starter John Grahame allowed four goals.  He has lost five of his 10 starts in regulation.

Monsters goals came from Mark Olver (10), David Van der Gulik (2), and Ryan Stoa (10).  Patrick Rissmiller contributed with two assists.  The loss drops Lake Erie a game under 0.500 and to last place of the North Division.

CSKA upends Barys 3-1.  Denis Parshin assisted on the second goal scored by CSKA.  He failed to record a shot on goal in 17:10 of ice time.

World Junior Championship

Canada doubles up Russia 6-3.  The Canadians out shot the Russians 42-27.  Tyson Barrie skated as the seventh defenseman for the Canadians and spent some time on their second power play unit.  He finished plus one for the game.  Canada will face the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

AHL

Lake Erie ends a four game losing streak, beats Houston 5-2.  After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Monsters responded with five unanswered goals.  Ryan Stoa led the way with two goals, including an empty netter.  Luke Walker notched his fifth goal of the season.

The other two tallies came off the sticks of Travis Gawryletz (1) and Tom Zanoski (2).  Jason Bacashihua stopped 25 shots to earn his eighth win of the season.  Ben Walter contributed with three assists.  Kevin Montgomery had two helpers.  Gawryletz, Stoa, and Bacashihua were named the three stars of the game.  The Monsters improve to 13-11-2-4.

Ottawa dumps Belleville 5-1.  The Bulls were dominated in shots 44-27.  Stephen Silas was minus one for the Bulls.  Ottawa was 2-7 on the power play.  Belleville falls to 11-20-0-2.

Owen Sound trips up Kitchener 4-3 in overtime.  It was a penalty filled game in which Owen Sound received seven power plays and Kitchener had 11.  Brandon Maxwell started the game for the Rangers and made 28 saves in the loss.  The win gives the Attack a three point lead over Kitchener in the North Division, but the Rangers do have three games in hand.

WHL

Kootenay falls to Saskatoon 4-2.  Stefan Elliott scored his 12th goal of the season late in the first period of the game.  He was penalized for tripping in the third period and finished with a plus two rating.  The Blades increase their record to 24-7-0-1.  They trail the Portland Winterhawks by two points for the best record in the league; with three games in hand.

Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota skate to a 2-2 tie.  This game was postponed from Saturday due to a major snow storm.  Kent Patterson was the star of the game, making 39 saves for the Gophers.  His record stands at 7-2-2.  Nate Condon assisted on the game tying goal, which was scored at the 5:24 mark of the third period.  He did not have any shots on goal.

North Dakota doubles up Minnesota State 4-2; sweeps the two game set.  Brad Malone recorded his fifth goal of the season.  The goal, scored in the late stages of the second period, turned out to be the game winner.  Malone was penalized for tripping early in the third period, but was named the first star of the game.

Dynamo Msk edges CSKA 3-2.  Denis Parshin scored his ninth goal of the season on a power play early in the second period.  He was penalized for high sticking late in the second frame.  Parshin ended up with four shots in the game.

AHL

Abbotsford gets by Lake Erie in the shoot-out 3-2.  The Monsters fell behind twice during the game and received a first period goal from Matt Ford (9) and a second period tally from Ryan Stoa (7) to tie up the game.  Patrick Rissmiller was the only Monster to score in the shoot-out.

John Grahme received the start in net and made 35 saves.  The Monsters did not score on their lone power play opportunity.  Stoa was named  the third star of the game.

Note:  Before the game, goaltender Trevor Cann was reassigned to the Tulsa Oilers (CHL).

Tulsa upends Rapid City 4-1.  The Oilers received two goals from Harrison Reed.  Reed now has nine goals in 19 games for Tulsa.  He was named the first star of the game.

Kitchener scores twice in the third period to take down Guelph 4-3.  Brandon Maxwell stopped 29 shots for the Rangers.  He improves to 13-5-1 on a day in which he was left off the US National Team preliminary roster for the upcoming World Junior Championships.  

WHL

Saskatoon blanks Prince George 3-0.  Stefan Elliott recorded his 10th goal of the season for the Blades.  It was a power play tally scored in the second period.  Elliott has 27 points in 29 games for Saskatoon.

AHL

Lake Erie doubles up Chicago 6-3.  Patrick Rissmiller had a huge night for the Monsters.  The former San Jose Shark had four goals and also assisted on another tally.  He was easily named the first star of the game.  The game's second star, Ben Walter, had a goal and two assists for the Monsters.  The other Monsters goal came off the stick of Matt Ford.

Ryan Stoa and Mark Olver each contributed with two helpers.  John Grahame out dueled former Denver Pioneers goaltender, Peter Mannino, and stopped 33 shots.  Grahame was named the third star of the game.  The Monsters were 2-5 on the power play.

Tulsa trims Mississippi in a shoot-out 5-4.  Harrison Reed launched five shots on goal during regulation and overtime, but did not find the score sheet.  He also did not score in his shoot-out opportunity.  Tom Fritsche was penalized for hooking in the first period.  He was held to a single shot on net and was plus one for the contest.

Owen Sound falls to Plymouth 3-2.   Joey Hishon notched his 15th goal of the season on a power play in the second period.  Both clubs were 1-5 on the power play.  The loss drops Owen Sound to second place in the Midwest Division behind the Kitchener Rangers.  

Erie trips up Kitchener 2-1 in overtime.  Brandon Maxwell made 33 saves in the game and was named the second star of the contest despite the loss.  His record drops to 12-5-1.  

Ottawa drops Belleville 4-1.  Stephen Silas assisted on a power play goal scored in the second period, but finished the game with a minus three rating.  He has 13 assists in 29 games this season.  The Bulls fall to 9-18-0-2.

WHL

Saskatoon skates by Kamloops, in overtime, 4-3.  Stefan Elliott assisted on the game tying goal and game winning goal.  The game winner was on the power play.  Elliott finished the game with a plus one rating.  

Portland dumps Tri-City 5-1.  The Winterhawks dominated in shots 48-27.  Troy Rutkowski assisted on two of the Portland goals; both on the power play.  He was even for the contest.  Rutkowski has 21 points in 31 games.

Seattle edges Prince George 5-4.  Calvin Pickard stopped 36 shots to earn his 11th win of the season.  The Thunderbirds were 0-4 on the power play.  Pickard has been in net for all of Seattle's wins this season.

Chilliwack comes back to beat Kelowna 3-2.  The Bruins scored three times in the third period to earn the victory.  Tyson Barrie assisted on a second period goal for the Rockets.  He took a slashing penalty in the third period and finished plus one for the game.

Ohio State nips Michigan in overtime 3-2.  Luke Moffatt skated on the third line for the Wolverines and fired two shots on net.  He was even for the contest.  Moffatt has eight points in 13 games this year for Michigan.  The Wolverines fall to 8-5-4.

Hockey East

Boston College thumps Boston University 9-4.  Terriers starting goaltender, Kieran Millan, was chased after the first period, when he allowed three goals on 13 shots.  Paul Carey scored on his first shot on goal.  The high shot that beat Millan was Carey's sixth goal of the season.  BU had 15 power plays and scored on three of them; BC was 3-8 with the man advantage. 

WCHA

Minnesota State edges Minnesota 3-2.  Nate Condon was credited with an assist on a first period Gophers goal.  He was even for the contest.  Kent Patterson did not play.  The Gophers fall to 8-6-1.

North Dakota upends St. Cloud State 3-1.  Brad Malone had a big night for the Sioux; he scored twice, including the game winner.  Malone also had the lone assist on the other North Dakota tally.  He was named the first star of the game.  The Sioux improve to 10-5-2.

AHL

Lake Erie upends Oklahoma City 5-3.  The Monsters were out shot 31-18.  Each club scored three times in the third period.  Ryan Stoa, the game's first star, scored twice.  Kevin Montgomery notched his first goal of the season and was named the second star of the contest.  

Mark Olver (9) and Ben Walter (7) had the other goals for Lake Erie, who ended up splitting the two game set with the Barons.   Patrick Rissmiller, Travis Gawryletz, and Julian Talbot each contributed with two assists.  Trevor Cann started the game for the Monsters and stopped 28 shots.  He was named the third star of the game.  

Notes:  Joel Chouinard and Colby Cohen continue to miss time due to injury/ illness.  It is unknown as to when either play will return.  Defenseman Jonas Holos was recalled up to the Colorado Avalanche after Friday's game against Oklahoma City.

Erie dumps Kitchener 7-3.  After posting a shut out on Friday night, Brandon Maxwell was lit up for three goals in the first period alone.  He would play the entire game for the Rangers and stop 44 shots.  Maxwell's record falls to 12-5.

Owen Sound blanks Sudbury 6-0.  Joey Hishon assisted on two power play goals for the Attack.  He finished with an even rating.  His club ended up out shooting Sudbury 48-25.  Hishon is 15th in the league in scoring with 34 points in 16 games.

WHL

Brown and Boston University skate to a 4-4 tie.  Kieran Millan made 19 saves in the game for the Terriers.  The Terriers were 1-7 on the power play.  The record for BU now stands at 7-1-5.  

Subway Holiday Classic (Grand Forks, ND)

Notre Dame and North Dakota finish in a 2-2 draw.  Brad Malone, who centered the second line for North Dakota, failed to record a shot on goal and finished with a minus one rating.  He was assessed with an elbowing minor in the first period and a high-sticking infraction in the final frame.

Blues skate by Ilves 2-1.  Sami Aittokallio stopped 27 shots in the loss.  In eight games with Ilves, Aittokallio has a goals against average of 3.64 and save percentage of 0.868.

Lake Erie doubles up Rockford 4-2.  Ryan Stoa is starting to get hot for the Monsters; he potted his third and fourth goals of the season.  Another player who is picking it up offensively for the Monsters,  Mike Carman, notched his fifth goal of the season.  Patrick Rissmiller had the other tally for Lake Erie.

Jason Bacashihua started the game and made 28 saves for the Monsters.  He has seven wins on the season.  Julian Talbot contributed with two assists.  Jonas Holos recorded his first point since being reassigned; an assist on Rissmiller's first period goal.  Stoa, Talbot and Bacashihua were named the three stars of the game.

Goaltender Trevor Cann was reassigned to the Tulsa Oilers (CHL).

Sarnia edges Owen Sound in a shoot-out 4-3.  Joey Hishon assisted on a third period power play goal for the Attack.  However, Hishon was unable to convert on his shoot-out opportunity.  He is currently 15th in the OHL in scoring with 31 points in 15 games.

Everett falls to Portland 4-2.  Troy Rutkowski was held without a point, but finished plus one for the game.  The Winterhawks currently hold the best record in the WHL.

Kelowna dumps Regina 6-1.  Tyson Barrie assisted on the first two goals scored by the Rockets.  He finished plus one for the contest.  Kelowna improves to 13-11 on the season.

Tri-City trims Seattle in a shoot-out 5-4.  Calvin Pickard did all he could to keep his club in the game by making 55 saves in regulation and in overtime.  He allowed one goal in the shoot-out.  Despite the loss, he was named the third star of the game.
