It became official on Monday afternoon that starting in the 2018-19 season, the Colorado Eagles will become the AHL affiliate for the Colorado Avalanche. Founded in 2003, the Loveland based franchise was a member of the Central Hockey League until 2011. The club enjoyed success with two league championships.
Beginning in the 2011-12 season, the club began its life as an ECHL franchise. It capped off its tenure in the league by capturing the Kelly Cup to conclude the 2016-17 season.
As the organization expands into the AHL beginning in the fall of 2018, they will continue to play at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland, CO. The Avs current AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, will partner up with the St. Louis Blues beginning in the 2018-19 season.
