Rookie Focus Now On Main Training Camp

Training Camp Begins Thursday

While several Avalanche players continue their participation in the World Cup of Hockey, the rest of the veterans and rookies will formally gather later this week to start training camp under the guidance of new head coach Jared Bednar.

Veterans will report for physicals on Thursday, with on ice sessions beginning Friday morning at Family Sports Center in Centennial, CO. Per usual, training camp practices are open to the public, and based on past experience, it's advised to arrive early. Sessions on Friday and Saturday will begin at 8:45 AM MST (second practices will begin at 10:45).

At least 59 players are expected to participate in training camp this year.

Rantanen Expected to be Out of Action for 2-4 Weeks

If there was one tough spot for the Avalanche this past weekend in the Rookie Showcase, it was the loss of forward Mikko Rantanen. Rantanen, who left Saturday's contest against the San Jose Sharks early, is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with an ankle injury. As Rantanen recovers, it opens the door for another promising player such as JT Compher.
