Avs to Draft 10th Overall
The NHL held its annual draft lottery on Saturday evening and the Colorado Avalanche entered the proceedings with a 3.5 percent chance of landing the top overall pick. As the event unfolded, the Avs found themselves holding on to the 10th pick, whereas Columbus and division rival Winnipeg jumped into the top three. As if the Central Division couldn't get any tougher for the Avalanche.
The Avs will land themselves a solid player, though not making an immediate impact. It's likely the first 5-6 selections will be forwards, which could push a solid defensive prospect the Avs way. We certainly have enough mocks and speculation to keep us busy until June 24th.
Avs Represented at the Worlds
The 2016 IIHF World Championship is set to begin this week in Russia. Due to, ahem, not being in the playoffs, the Avalanche will be well represented in the tournament. This includes both current roster players and prospects within the organization.
Borna Rendulic suited up for host Croatia in the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (Division 1 - Group B) in April. Ukraine defeated Great Britain in the gold medal game 2-1 last week.
Rendulic had two goals and five assists in four games.
