World Junior Championship
Gold Medal Game
Finland 4 - Russia 3 - F/OT
All good things...
The World Junior Championship came to an end in the most exciting fashion; an overtime winner by the host team. Things looked very promising once Mikko Rantanen tipped a shot to give the Finns a 3-2 lead with about two minutes remaining in the third period.
Russia showed some resilience, forcing overtime with seconds remaining. Yet, Kasperi Kapanen made Finland golden; scoring 93 seconds into the extra session. Rantanen was named Finland's player of the game. Sergei Boikov, who had a nice phyiscal game for the Russians, finished minus one.
Val-d'Or 4 - Gatineau 1
Alexis Pepin assisted on the goal that gave the Foreurs a two goal lead in the third period. Nicolas Meloche assisted on the lone marker scored by the Olympiques.
