Russia 2 - Czech Republic 1 - F/SO
After a scoreless first period, Michael Spacek opened the scoring for the Czech Republic in the second frame. The goal came on a penalty shot. Artur Lauta had the equalizer for the Russians in the third.
Sergei Boikov had three shots in the game. He was called for holding and tripping infractions. The Russians won the shoot-out in three rounds 1-0.
Finland 6 - Belarus 0
Host team Finland was held off the board by the fiesty Ivan Kulbakov until late into the second period. Yet, in the third period, the host club could not be stopped. Mikko Rantanen, who was named captain of Team Finland, capped off the game's scoring with a short-handed empty net marker. Jesse Puljujarvi scored twice. Belarus was held to 10 shots on goal.
San Antonio 5 - Texas 4
No Mikko Rantanen, no problem? Not exactly, but it was a positive in the win column for the Rampage on Saturday evening. A strong first period for San Antonio resulted in goals from Nikita Zadorov (7) and Dennis Everberg (7).
After the Stars tied up the game, Joey Hishon scored the first of his two goals on the night. The second of Hishon's goals came with just 22 seconds remaining in the game on the power play.
Colin Smith (11) had the other goal for San Antonio. Roman Will started the game in place of Calvin Pickard, who was recalled to the Avalanche. Will made 44 saves. Hishon was named the first star of the game.
Fort Wayne 5 - Kalamazoo 2
Five different skaters found the back of the net for the Komets. Garrett Meurs assisted on a power play goal in the third period.
