Geertsen Injured in Season Opener

Mason Geertsen, one of the top defencemen with the Vancouver Giants, didn’t skate with the WHL team on Monday due to an upper body injury and Giants general manager Scott Bonner listed him as day-to-day after the on-ice session.
Geertsen, 18, a fourth-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in this summer’s NHL draft, was hurt in Friday’s season opener against the Victoria Royals. He did seem to finish the game, although he struggled on the night and wound up a minus-three. He skipped the second half of the home-and-home Saturday on Vancouver Island.
