The Avalanche closed out their three-day training camp on Saturday with a scrimmage between Team Gray and Team Blue. While Joey Hishon did not participate during rookie nor training camp, he did do some skating after Saturday's session had concluded.
Team Gray won the final scrimmage of training camp 6-4. Jamie McGinn was the offensive star for Team Blue with a hat trick. Nick Holden had the other score for the Blue squad. Team Gray received contributions from Trevor Cheek, Markus Lauridsen, Mitch Heard, J.T. Wyman (2), and Alex Tanguay .
Trevor Cheek – Paul Stastny – Garrett Meurs
Gabriel Landeskog – Michael Sgarbossa – Alex Tanguay
Joseph Blandisi – Mitchell Heard – JT Wyman
Ryan Wilson – Stefan Elliott
Cory Sarich – Duncan Siemens
Mikael Tam – Markus Lauridsen
Jamie McGinn – Nathan MacKinnon – Steve Downie
Cody McLeod – Colin Smith – PA Parenteau
Paul Carey – Michael Clarke – Mark Olver/ Andrew Agozzino
Tyson Barrie – Matt Hunwick
Gabriel Beaupre – Andre Benoit
Nick Holden – Nate Guenin
Nathan MacKinnon had a solid, but unspectacular training camp. The Avalanche coaching staff is rightly not putting too much pressure on the young man and he has had his moments. In the second half of the scrimmage, MacKinnon used his speed to drive towards the net and made a nice play down low to help setup one of McGinn's goals.
Duncan Siemens has taken some nice steps in the right direction during both rookie and training camps. He is much stronger and has increased his physical intensity.
Mikael Tam drove both Avalanche players and fans crazy with some of his "borderline" hits. The pest managed to back his way out of at least one fight with Cody McLeod.
A stick tap to Mitch Heard who had a goal in the game and had some nice chemistry in camp with Plymouth Whalers team mate Garrett Meurs.
