Saturday Scoreboard


Grand Rapids trips up Lake Erie 5-4 in overtime. The Monsters blew a three goal first period lead. Luke Walker (8), Michael Sgarbossa (19), and Bill Thomas (21) had the goals in the opening frame. The Griffins tied the game in the second period with three goals of their own.

David van der Gulik (18) gave the Monsters a brief 4-3 lead in the third before Grand Rapids tied the contest 1:05 later. Adam Almquist had a hat trick for the Griffins; including both the game tying and winning goals. The winning tally came with only 10 seconds left in overtime.

Calvin Pickard made 22 saves in the loss. Joey Hishon recorded his first professional point with an assist on Thomas's first period goal. The Monsters were 2-5 with the man advantage.

Rapid City gets the best of Denver in a shoot-out 2-1. AJ Gale had the lone regulation tally for the Cutthroats. Kent Patterson earned second star of the game honors, made 34 saves. Jesse Schultz and Damian Surma scored for Rapid City in the shoot-out. Denver enters the playoffs as the eighth seeded team.


Western Conference Quarterfinals -- Game 2 -- 1-0 Plymouth

Plymouth edges Sarnia 3-2. Both goals for the Sting came on the power play. Garrett Meurs assisted on a second period goal for the Whalers. He also took a double minor for spearing in the opening frame. Mitch Heard opened the scoring in the first period with his first goal of the playoffs. Heard also had an assist in the second period and was called for roughing in the first. Heard was named the first star of the game.


First-Round -- Game 2 -- 1-0 Chicoutimi

Quebec upends Chicoutimi 5-1. The Remparts struck twice on nine power play opportunities. Dillon Donnelly was called for cross-checking and high sticking in the second and third periods respectively. He was credited with a hit in the game and had a plus one rating. Nick Sorensen was the offensive hero for Quebec with a hat trick.


Western Conference Quarterfinals -- Game 2 -- 1-0 Kamloops

Kamloops holds off Victoria 6-4. Joel Edmundson and Tim Bozon each scored twice in the game for the Blazers. Colin Smith had two assists in he game for Kamloops. The Royals scored three times in the third period to keep things interesting. Smith was named the second star of the game.


CCHA Tournament Semifinal

Michigan dumps Miami 6-2. The Wolverines scored four times in the second period. Luke Moffatt had one of the four Michigan tallies in the fruitful second period. His eighth goal of the season was also credited as the game winner in the contest. Alex Guptill and Andrew Copp each scored twice for the Wolverines.

ECAC Hockey Third Place Game

Quinnipiac blanks Yale 3-0. Quinnipiac received a goal and an assist from Kevin Bui. Gus Young had three shots in the game and a minus one rating. The Bulldogs had 30 shots in the game and finished 0-4 on the power play.
