Toronto upends Lake Erie 5-1. The Monsters lose two out of three games to open the regular season. Mark Olver had the lone marker for the Monsters on the power play late in the second period, after the club fell behind 1-0. Colin Smith and Mike Sgarbossa had the assists.
Trevor Smith had two goals for the Marlies and an assist. One of his goals was assisted by former Colorado defenseman John-Michael Liles. Calvin Pickard made 28 saves for the Monsters, who were out shot 33-21. Two of the goals for the Marlies were of the empty net variety.
North Bay skates past Mississauga 4-1. Brandon Robinson scored twice for the Battalion. Spencer Martin surrendered all four goals to North Bay on 39 shots. His club only managed 23 shots on goal.
Ottawa trims Peterborough 3-2 in a shoot-out. The Petes dominated the game in shots 55-37. Michael Clarke did not record a point during regulation and was unable to convert on his shoot-out opportunity. Joseph Blandisi was penalized for high sticking early in the game for the 67's. He did score on his shoot-out chance, in which Ottawa won 2-1.
Michigan falls to Waterloo 2-1. The clubs combined to go 0-8 on the power play. Luke Moffatt fired three shots on goal for the Wolverines. Andrew Copp scored an unassisted goal for Michigan at the 25 second mark of the second period.
New Brunswick scores twice in the first period, holds off Denver 2-1. The Pioneers, under new head coach Jim Montgomery, struggled to get anything going on their power play. The club was 0-9. Will Butcher had five shots on goal for Denver. Daniel Doremus had the lone marker for the Pioneers.
