Shawinigan Wins 2012 Memorial Cup

Host Shawinigan capped off their season with a 2-1 overtime win over the London Knights to win the 2012 Memorial Cup. Former Avs prospect Michael Bournival, assisted on the game winner and overall had seven points in the tournament. Defenseman Dillon Donnelly did not have point in six games played for the Cataractes, but racked up 21 penalty minutes.

The 2013 Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Saskatoon Blades. The club will likely be captained by Avs 2011 first round pick Duncan Siemens.

Deadline Approaches

An important signing deadline approaches for players drafted in 2010 out of the CHL and some European countries. The Avalanche will lose the rights to defensemen Stephen Silas (Belleville, OHL) and Troy Rutkowski (Portland, WHL) if not signed to entry level contracts by 3:00 PM MST on Friday, June 1st. The Avalanche have signed all of their other prospects that required entry level contracts.

Silas and Rutkowski were fourth and fifth round picks respectively for the Avalanche in 2010.

Hishon Updates His Recovery

It's been a year since Joey Hishon has played in a game and he took some time today to update his status on Twitter:
