Rockford falls to Lake Erie 2-1. The win moves the Monsters up to seventh place for the time being. However, teams chasing the Monsters have two or three games in hand. The teams were held scoreless in the first two periods, before a former Gopher got on the board.
Ryan Stoa had one shot in the game, but made it count at the 1:56 mark of the third period with his 14th tally of the season. Former Avalanche farm hand, Brian Fahey, tied the game at one less than four minutes later. Brad Malone (10) was cedited with the game winner past the midway point of the period. He was named the third star of the game.
Cedrick Desjardins stopped 34 shots for Lake Erie. He earned third star of the game honors and now has 14 wins on the season. Stoa was the second star of the game. Rockford and Lake Erie will conclude their season series on Saturday.
Quarter-Final -- Best-of-7 -- Game 1
Chicoutimi trips up Shawinigan 7-6 in overtime. The teams combined to score seven goals in the third period. Dillon Donnelly, who was sidelined in the first round due to an upper body injury, returned to the lineup for the Cataractes. Donnelly had one shot in the game and found himself in the penalty box for roughing in the first period. Game two is set for Saturday.
Western Conference Semifinals -- Best-of-7 -- Game 1
Portland comes back to beat Kamloops 5-3. After falling behind 3-1, the Winterhawks scored four unanswered goals in the third period. Troy Rutkowski did not factor in the game offensively for Portland. The series will resume on Saturday.
