Rochester holds off Lake Erie 2-1. The loss eliminates the Monsters from playoff contention. Lake Erie generated 36 shots against the Americans, including 16 in the final period, but goals were difficult to find. The lone tally belonged to Patrick Rissmiller (13), who scored on the power play just 10 seconds into the second period. He was named the third star of the game.
Cedrick Desjardins made 24 saves for the Monsters. The club ends with a record of 37-29-3-7. Much like their parent club, goal scoring was an issue all season for Lake Erie. They finished with 189 goals; only Hamilton was worse in the league.
Like many minor league clubs, expect drastic roster changes next year. The biggest is likely to be in goal with Desjardins an unrestricted free agent. However, the offense may see a much needed boost with Michael Sgarbossa and a healthy Joey Hishon. There is also head coach David Quinn's future. Last offseason he was a candidate for the head coaching position for Providence College. Will another coaching position come calling? It'll be an interesting summer.
