Lake Erie skates past Hamilton 5-3. Shots in the game were 37-26 for the Monsters. However, both clubs came up short on the power play. Karl Stollery opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game with his second goal in a Monsters uniform. However, the lead was short lived for the Monsters faithful as former Av Brian Willsie tied the game less than 40 seconds later.
Ryan Stoa put the Monsters up 2-1 in the same period with goal number 15 on the season. Eric Hunter (6) had the only goal in the second period for Lake Erie. The teams were tied at three headed to the final frame. Goals by Stoa and David van der Gulik (12) sealed the win for the Monsters.
Cedrick Desjardins made 23 saves as he faced former Avalanche prospect Peter Delmas (who left the game after giving up two goals on seven shots). What is important now for Lake Erie is that their win and results from other games on Friday have put them in a position in which their playoff hopes are still alive. Beat the Rochester Americans on Saturday night in their regular season finale and the Monsters will clinch a playoff spot.
