The Monsters winless skid continues as they fall 4-3 to the Texas Stars in a shoot-out. Despite not having a win in their last six games, the Monsters only trail eighth place San Antonio by one point. However, games in hand for other clubs surrounding the Monsters in the standings poses a significant threat to their playoff hopes.
Cameron Gaunce (5) had the only score for both clubs in the first period. The Stars grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second frame. Greg Mauldin's 16th goal of the season tied the game at two early in the third period. Texas regained the lead later in the period before Mike Connolly (11) notched his first tally since joining the Monsters, with 1:59 remaining in regulation. He was named the third star of the game.
Cedrick Desjardins stopped 28 shots for the Monsters. Lake Erie lost the shoot-out 3-2. The Monsters have seven games remaining and will face the Houston Aeros on Thursday evening.
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals -- Best-of-7 -- 2-0 Brampton
Brampton hammers Sudbury 6-1 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. The lone tally for the Wolves was scored by Michael Sgarbossa. Sgarbossa, who has been held in check effectively by the Battalion in the series, scored the short-handed tally in the third period. He was penalized for checking to the head in the opening period and cross checking in the second frame.
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals -- Best-of-7 -- 2-1 Ottawa
Belleville trips up Ottawa in overtime 4-3; ties the series at two. Each club scored once on the power play. Defenseman Stephen Silas was plus one for the Bulls. The series shifts back to Ottawa for game five on Friday.
First Round -- Best-of-7 -- 2-0 Rimouski
Rimouski edges Val-d'Or in overtime 3-2. Both goals for the Foreurs were scored with the man advantage. Gabriel Beaupre was credited with a hit in the game, but was minus one on the evening. The Oceanic will have an opportunity to close out the series on Wednesday.
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals -- Best-of-7 -- 2-0 Medicine Hat
Emerson Etem's goal in overtime gives the Medicine Hat Tigers a 3-2 win and 3-0 lead in the series. Duncan Siemens had the secondary assist for the Blades game tying goal in the third period. The teams combined to go 0-9 on the power play. Saskatoon will try to extend their season on Wednesday night.
Western Conference Quarterfinals -- Best-of-7 -- 2-0 Portland
Portland doubles up Kelowna 6-3; takes 3-0 lead in the series. The Winterhawks scored three times in the third period. Troy Rutkowski was held without a point for Portland and was minus one for the contest. He and his team mates will have an opportunity to close out Kelowna on Thursday.
