AHL

Preseason

Lake Erie skates past Grand Rapids 3-1 in their preseason opener. Brad Malone opened the scoring for the Monsters, who also received goals from Barry Goers and Paul Carey. Sami Aittokallio started the game and made 19 saves for the Monsters. Kieran Millan, who took over for Aittokallio late in the second period, stopped all 11 shots he faced. Carey's goal was deemed the game winner.

OHL

Plymouth doubles up Niagara 6-3. The Whalers scored four times in the second period. One of those goals belonged to Garrett Meurs, who now has two goals on the season. He also assisted on a first period tally for Plymouth. The Whalers have won two of their first five games. The teams combined to go 0-6 on the power play.

Owen Sound trims Guelph 4-3 in a shoot-out. Each team scored twice on the power play and had a goal in each period. The Attack won the shoot-out 2-0, but Joseph Blandisi did not capitalize on his opportunity. More importantly, his club has now won back-to-back games.

QMJHL

PEI dumps Shawinigan 6-1. The Rocket had a 3-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. Dillon Donnelly had a roughing penalty in the opening period and was involved in a fight in the second frame. The reigning Memorial Cup champs are off to a 2-4-0-1 start.

WHL

Saskatoon falls to Edmonton 4-1. The Oil Kings struck three times on the power play in the second period to take control of the game. It was a period that featured various major infractions from both clubs. Defenseman Duncan Siemens was minus one for a slow starting Blades team. Saskatoon has dropped three straight.

Kamloops upends Medicine Hat 4-1. Colin Smith had three assists in the game, including two helpers on JC Lipon goals scored in the third period. Medicine Hat was 0-4 on the power play. Kamloops has earned 11 of a possible 12 points in their first six games of the season.

Kelowna drops Prince George 7-5. The clubs combined to score six goals in the opening period. Troy Bourke notched his first two goals of the season in the contest. His efforts earned him second star of the game honors. The loss is the first in regulation for the Cougars on the young season. 

NCAA

Exhibition

Minnesota blanks Lethbridge 7-0. Nate Condon was called for tripping early in the game, but ended up with five shots on goal for Minnesota. He contributed a helper on a third period Seth Ambroz power play goal. The Gophers open the regular season with a two game set against Michigan State next weekend.

Europe

Elitserien

AIK clips Växjö Lakers HC 3-2. The loss extends the Lakers losing streak to five games. Jonas Holos fired four shots on goal for his club, but did not come up with a point. The defenseman continues to see more than 20 minutes of ice time per game.
