We are in the midst of the playoffs in the Canadian Hockey League. Of the six Avalanche prospects who made it to the playoffs, four have seen their teams advance to the second round.
The Belleville Bulls were finished off quickly in four games by Mississauga. Belleville only scored once in the series. Stephen Silas was minus two in the series.
In Kitchener, the Rangers lost a heart breaking seven game series to the Plymouth Whalers. Brandon Maxwell lost his starting job after the Rangers were down 1-3 in the series. The club would eventually force a game seven before finally sucuumbing to the Whalers. Maxwell finished with a goals against average of 3.75 and save percentage of 0.891 in the series.
Owen Sound beat London in a tough series in six games. Joey Hishon managed a goal and four assists in those six games. Owen Sound will face Plymouth in the second round.
Saskatoon got a good scare from Prince Albert before disposing of them in six games. Stefan Elliott had two goals and four assists. The Blades will play the Kootenay Ice in round two.
Portland and Kelowna both swept their respective first round series and will meet in the second round. Troy Rutkowski and Tyson Barrie each had five points.
The Frozen Four is set and two Avs prospects in Brad Malone and Luke Moffatt will play each other in one of the semifinal games on Thursday. I'll have a more in-depth preview of the Frozen Four, which will be posted on Thursday morning, over at Mile High Hockey.
