Lake Erie trips up Rochester in overtime 3-2. The Monters held the Americans to 18 shots on goal. David Van der Gulik (13) opened the scoring for the Monsters in the first period. After falling behind 2-1, Ben Walter notched his 20th goal of the season to tie the game past the midway point of the third period.

Justin Mercier was tossed at the 17:42 mark of the final frame for boarding. After killing off the major penalty, Greg Mauldin (16) scored off his own rebound to win the game with 33 seconds left in the overtime session.

The clubs combined to go 0-10 on the power play. Jason Bacashihua earned his 20th win of the season. Walter and Van der Gulik were named the first and second stars of the game. Lake Erie has won seven games in a row. The Monsters continue their push to the post-season in Toronto on Saturday.

Western Conference Quarterfinals -- Best of 7 -- Game 1

Kitchener falls to Plymouth 6-5. The Rangers fired 51 shots on net. Brandon Maxwell allowed all six Whalers goals on 30 shots. Gabriel Landeskog, who is expected to be a top three pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, scored twice for the Kitchener Rangers. Kitchener will look for redemption on Saturday night.

Owen Sound trims London in overtime 3-2. The Attack dominated in shots 52-23. Joey Hishon assisted on the game winner. Each club scored once on the power play. Game two is set for Saturday evening.

Kelowna upends Prince George 4-1. The Rockets scored three times in the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Tyson Barrie assisted on a first period power play goal for Kelowna. He also assisted on the empty net marker. Barrie was plus one for the game. Two of the Rockets goals came on the man advantage.


West Regional (St. Louis, MO) -- Semifinals

Michigan edges Nebraska-Omaha in overtime 3-2. The controversial game winning goal, scored by Kevin Lynch, was reviewed well over nine minutes by game officials. Luke Moffatt had two shots on goal for the Wolverines. Michigan will face Colorado College on Saturday in the regional final.

Colorado College rolls over Boston College 8-4. The Tigers scored three times on the power play. Paul Carey scored his 13th goal of the season in the second period. He finished with three shots on net. Boston College ends the season with a 30-8-1 record. Carey finishes his junior year with 13 goals and 13 assists in 38 games.
