News and Notes

Now that college and junior seasons are starting to end for some clubs, players can be added to AHL rosters. Once Clear Day rosters have been announced, players from junior and college teams can only be added on amateur tryouts. Ohio State's Peter Boyd and Minnesota's Jacob Cepis were recently added to the Lake Erie Monsters roster for their playoff push; as well as former UMass-Lowell defenseman Maury Edwards.

It's possible that players such as Brad Malone and Joey Hishon could see time with the Monsters later this spring; assuming Lake Erie is still playing.

Now that Joey Hishon is under contract, look for the Avs to focus on 2009 draft picks Tyson Barrie and Stefan Elliott. Both players need to be signed by June 1st or the Avs will lose their rights. Considering the club felt Kevin Shattenkirk was somewhat expendable with these two in the pipeline, it will be surprising if they are not signed quickly after their seasons conclude.

North Dakota senior, Brad Malone, recently spoke publically for the first time about his hit on Denver forward Jesse Martin. Denver Post, and Denver Pioneers beat writer, Mike Chambers, captured a chance meeting between the two players at a hotel in St. Paul, MN.

Most of the prospect stories that I find I just tweet or re-tweet on Twitter. Yet, I wanted to post this piece here as some of you may not be on Twitter and this story is well worth the read.
