Hamilton scores three times in the second period, edges Lake Erie 3-2. The Monsters are now 1-3 on their seven game road trip. Jason Bacashihua was back in net for Lake Erie and stopped 21 shots. He has lost 12 games in regulation this season.
One of the two goals scored by Lake Erie was special for one player. Defenseman Cameron Gaunce scored his first professional goal in the second period. He was named the second star of the game. Ben Walter (11) had the other tally for the Monsters. The road trip continues through Rochester on Friday.
Regina holds off Saskatoon 4-3 in a shoot-out. The Blades fired 62 shots on net in regulation and overtime. Defenseman Stefan Elliott recorded his 19th goal of the season. He also assisted on the power play goal in the third period that tied the game at three. Elliott continues to lead all defensemen in scoring in the WHL and now is in the top 20 for all skaters.
Spokane holds off Portland 4-3. Each club was 0-6 on the power play. Troy Rutkowski assisted on a third period goal for the Winterhawks. He was penalized for elbowing in the third frame and finished the contest with a plus two rating.
CSKA falls to Severstal 4-2. Denis Parshin found himself in the penalty box on two occasions; in the first period for hooking and in the second period for tripping. Parshin fired five shots on net and was minus one for the game.
KooKoo skates past LeKi 4-2. Sami Aittokallio played his first game with LeKi since returning from the World Junior Championship. He made 38 saves in the contest.
