Hamilton trims Lake Erie 3-2. Despite the loss, the Monsters did have an edge in shots 34-24. Both Monsters goals, Mark Olver (11) and Ben Walter (9), came in the second period and both were scored on the power play.
Jason Bacashihua started the game and allowed all three Bulldogs goals. He was pulled in favor of John Grahame in the third period. He stopped all five shots he faced. The loss drops the Monsters a game under 0.500. Olver was named the second star of the game. The home-and-home series between the clubs concludes on Saturday.
Saskatoon dumps Prince Albert 5-1. Stefan Elliott notched his 15th goal of the season on a power play opportunity in the third period. Elliott is now the leading scoring defenseman in the WHL with 35 points in 36 games. The Blades improve their league best record to 28-8-0-1.
US Hockey Hall of Fame Game
North Dakota blanks Minnesota-Duluth 5-0. The Bulldogs were 0-7 on the power play. Brad Malone scored twice for the Sioux, including a short-handed tally. He was penalized for interference and cross-checking in the second period. North Dakota's record improves to 14-5-2.
Great Lakes Invitational (Detroit, MI) -- Championship Game
Michigan skates past Colorado College 6-5. The Wolverines win the Great Lakes Invitational. Luke Moffatt skated on the fourth line for Michigan and fired three shots on net. Four of the five goals scored by Colorado College came on the power play. The Wolverines improve to 12-5-4.
Ledyard National Bank Classic (Hanover, NH)
Boston College skates past Colgate 6-5. Paul Carey scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season playing on the top line for the Eagles. In addition to his two goals, he also assisted on another BC tally. His second goal was credited as the game winner. Boston College now has 12 wins on the season.
